💜• Weekly Lowdown: Old Habits Aren’t the Enemy... Shame Is

Here’s what we get wrong:
Old habits aren’t the enemy. Shame is.

Your habits? They’re survival codes. They’re the patterns your nervous system built over years to keep you safe. Not convenient. Not healthy. But safe.

And yet… we expect to shatter them in a weekend. Like deleting an app from your phone. When we can’t, the shame piles on:

See? You’re weak. You’ll never change. You’ve ruined it again.

That shame does more damage than the habit ever could.

In Living in Light, one woman came in completely drained. Years of saying yes to everyone else boss, family, friends and no to herself. Burnout was her baseline.

She wanted to “fix” people-pleasing in 8 weeks flat. (Don’t we all?) But that’s not what happened.

Here’s what did:

  • She caught herself about to say yes, paused, and said no once.
  • She felt the guilt hit hard, but this time she breathed through it instead of collapsing back into the old script.
  • Slowly, her nervous system started to trust: I can choose differently and still be safe.

That’s how real transformation looks.
🧨 Not fireworks. Not perfection. Just small cracks in an old pattern.

👉 Habits take years to form. They take more than a day to undo.
👉 Progress is messy, uneven, and full of relapses.
👉 The only thing that keeps you moving?

Forgiving yourself instead of shaming yourself.

Because shame makes you quit. Forgiveness lets you try again. And again. Until one day, the habit isn’t who you are anymore.

So if you’re stuck in anxiety, people-pleasing, self-doubt whatever your thing is - stop demanding instant change. Don’t let shame write the story.

Notice the micro-wins. Celebrate the 2% shift. Forgive the setbacks.

That’s how habits die. Slowly, surely, permanently.

Tiny, vibey, tucked away next to the train station which is also absolutely beautiful. Incredible tapas + asian style dishes. The kind of place where you’re like: “How did i not notice this place!" Amazing dishes better as a lunch option i'd say than a night one - Highly recommend.
